"Every plant has a story . . . ."

R. sinofalconeri

 R. sinofalconeri outside the Nursery Greenhouse

The forebears of this magnificent shrub live in Yunnan, China.  We visited them in all their native glory in cooperation with the Kunming Institute of Botany and the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden of Federal Way.  Our plants were grown here on the Olympic Peninsula.

This is a brand new species introduced to the west in 1996.  In its native habitat, sinofalconeri may grow in mixed forests, bamboo forests, or in its own magnificent rhododendron forest.  Here you can expect it to grow into a vigorous, tall, large-leafed evergreen tree.

You could have one of the first of these plants to bloom here with a flower ranging from pale to full, rich yellow.

This rhododendron will like:  Some shade - but does not require 100% - Small amounts of fertilizer on Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day - Gentle Watering - Well aerated soil

Plant any time, but be sure to keep moist through spring and summer.

It’s hardy for western Washington.
