A broadly upright shrub.  Broadly rhombic leaves.  Has good fall color.  Deciduous.

Flowers are in shades of purple or rose or occasionally white and appear after the leaves.  There are ten stamens.

Give this plant small amounts of fertilizer on Valentine's day and Mother's Day, gentle watering that keeps it moist and good drainage with well aerated soil.
