"Every plant has a story . . . ." R. irroratum (Ningyuenense Group)
The flowers are creamy yellow and bloom season is fairly early in this form of the species. This rhodie lives high in Western China in shady rhododendron and conifer forests and at the forest margins. It enjoys shade, but it can also take some sun. It’s quite common in the wild, but its early flowering and growth could be vulnerable to frost. We grew it from seed here on the Olympic Peninsula. This rhododendron will like: Partial Shade - Small amounts of fertilizer on Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day - Gentle Watering - Well aerated soil - Protection from frost
