"Every plant has a story . . . ."

R. hodgsonii

This plant will slowly grow into a large tree with rich green leaves.  When it blooms, it will have flowers ranging from pink through purple red.  The real attraction, however, is the gorgeous silvery (metallic feel) new growth each spring.  The bark is creamy to cinnamon colored, smooth and peeling.  The indumentum (hairs on bottom of leaves) provides a silvery, distinctive look.

Nepal and southern Tibet are home to this plant.  Our seed was produced by the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden in Federal Way, Washington.

The plant is named after the Englishman B. H. Hodgson, a former East India Company Resident in Nepal.

Give the plant about 50% shade.  Fertilize sparingly in February and May.
